Southlake Dyslexia Specialist | 12-Week Reading Program
Certified Dyslexia Specialist Catherine Mitchell | Serving Southlake, Carroll ISD & All of DFW
When a child keeps guessing at words, avoiding reading, or falling further behind despite extra help, it starts affecting much more than reading.
Homework takes longer. Reading aloud becomes stressful. A child who used to participate starts hanging back. Parents begin wondering how many more school years are going to feel this hard.
I work with Southlake families whose children may know many sounds and phonics rules but still struggle to use them accurately when they meet unfamiliar words.
Through a Speech-to-Print approach, we look closely at where the reading process is breaking down and build instruction around what your child actually needs.
The goal is not simply a better test score.
It is a child who can open a book with less hesitation, work through unfamiliar words with more independence, and begin to see reading differently.
Our 12-Week Reading Program includes a guarantee: at least one full grade level of reading growth in 12 weeks, or we continue working with your child at no additional cost.

Is Your Southlake Child Still Struggling With Reading?
Parents often reach out after school intervention, tutoring, or phonics programs have helped some, but reading is still not becoming accurate or automatic.
You may notice your child:
guesses from the first letter
changes or leaves off word endings
gets stuck on unfamiliar words
sounds a word out and then says something different
reads slowly or very choppily
avoids reading aloud
spells the same word different ways
struggles more as words become longer and less familiar
These patterns can show up in students across Carroll ISD and surrounding Southlake schools, including Rockenbaugh Elementary, Durham Intermediate, Eubanks Intermediate, Carroll Middle School, and Carroll Senior High School.
The question is not simply whether your child has already been taught phonics.
It is whether they can use the code accurately and independently when they read.
When those skills begin to change, reading can stop feeling like a constant struggle and begin feeling like something your child knows how to approach.
Speech-to-Print Reading Intervention for Southlake Families
Speech-to-Print begins with the sounds your child already uses in spoken language and connects those sounds to the different ways they appear in print.
We work directly with reading and spelling so your child can begin using those patterns more accurately and independently when they meet unfamiliar words.
The 12-week program is built around your child’s assessment, so instruction is focused on the skills they actually need rather than a one-size-fits-all sequence.
Because sessions are online, Southlake families can access specialized reading intervention without adding another drive across DFW to an already busy week.
The goal is measurable reading growth and a child who feels more capable when they open a book.
