Reading is made up of multiple skills, and two children with the same overall reading score can have very different reasons for struggling.
That is why assessment looks beyond a single number.
Depending on the student and the assessment used, we may measure:
phonological awareness
phonemic awareness
decoding
nonsense-word reading
automatic word recognition
reading fluency
spelling
reading comprehension
These areas help identify where reading is breaking down and what needs to be taught next.
The results above highlight the reading outcomes for which we currently have the strongest comparable pre- and post-assessment data.
The Guarantee Is About Meaningful Reading Growth — Not Every Skill Moving at the Same Rate.
Reading development is not perfectly even.
A child may make a major jump in decoding and automatic word recognition while spelling develops more gradually.
That is normal.
Spelling is more complex and typically takes longer to develop than reading, which is why I explain to families from the beginning that the one-grade-level guarantee is not a promise that every individual reading and spelling score will increase by a full grade level within 12 weeks.
The Progress Promise means that your child will demonstrate at least one full grade level of measurable growth in a key area of reading during the program — or I continue working with your child at no additional cost until that growth is reached.
Children do not all grow in exactly the same area or at exactly the same rate. That is why progress is measured across multiple components of reading rather than relying on a single score.

Reading a paragraph without stopping every few words.
Needing less help with homework.
